ATWATER, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - An event was held Friday to honor the life of Atwater Elementary Assistant Principal, Ron Hoffart, who died at 56 years old from lung cancer in August.

Mitchell Senior Elementary organized a walkathon and raised close to $4,000 to help support those battling cancer.

"Ron loved this community. He loved this school. So, it's just amazing to see all the kids out here walking teachers, staff, in honor of Ron and their loved ones who have been impacted by cancer," Ron's wife, Donna Hoffart said.

Donna was filled with emotion after seeing the community coming together for her husband.

After receiving his diagnosis last year, his colleagues and hundreds of kids stuck by his side, helping raise awareness and showering Ron and his family with love and support.
