CHEYENNE — New leadership is welcoming unhoused community members back to The Welcome Mat and offering a second chance to those who have previously received citations at the day shelter.
Resources for people in need of a shelter are limited in Cheyenne. Even if you can be housed at Cheyenne’s only overnight homeless shelter, the COMEA House and Resource Center, you can rarely stay during the day.
That makes The Welcome Mat, Cheyenne’s only day shelter, pretty important, according to new Wyoming Coalition for the Homeless Director Christie Campbell. The coalition operates The Welcome Mat.
“I definitely took on more than I had bargained for, but I feel like everyone is better for it, including myself,” Campbell said. “I’m tired, but I’m happy.”
