PHOENIX — The mother of a 9-year-old girl who was reported missing from California has been arrested, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office.
The FBI said the missing girl, Melodee Buzzard, could have traveled through Arizona with her mother, Ashlee Buzzard, who has been arrested on charges unrelated to her daughter's disappearance, the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.
"Detectives learned of a recent incident where Ashlee prevented a victim from leaving a location, against their will, which constitutes false imprisonment," the news release said. "This crime is not connected to the ongoing search for Melodee; however, detectives are unable to fully outline the crime as it would impede their ongoing investigation."
