ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Middle and high school students across South Georgia are getting hands-on experience in healthcare, thanks to Phoebe Putney Health System’s new $1.2 million Simulation and Innovation Mobile Unit.

The mobile lab is designed to spark students’ interest in healthcare careers early — allowing them to experience what it’s like to work in hospitals, clinics and even administrative offices.

“We want to get them influenced at an early age,” said Alicia Drake, Medical Arts Teacher at Merry Acres Middle School. “We need doctors, nurses, administrators, HR — not just clinical people. It’s all hands on deck for our next generation to take care of our community.”
