The LPGA has explained its reason for its invitation to Kai Trump ahead of her professional golf debut following widespread criticism.

Kai, the granddaughter of United States President Donald Trump, is set to play at The ANNIKA driven by Gainbridge at Pelican next week.

The 18-year-old is committed to playing golf for Miami but ranks 461st in the American Junior Golf Association Girls rankings. She previously shot 35 over par at the Arnold Palmer Invitational Junior event.

Given the above, the LPGA has fielded some backlash ahead of the upcoming tourney, which begins on November 13.
