NEWTON, Kan. (KSNW) - Newton is considering halting water service disconnections amid the government shutdown and suspension of SNAP benefits.
"So that's a little up in the air. Our intention was that we are very aware of the struggle and the economic hardship that our residents are going through right now," Newton city manager Daniela Rivas said.
Next week, city officials will vote on whether to suspend water disconnections for people who cannot pay their bills. However, they say that could change since SNAP will be fully funded for Kansans.
