GREENSBORO, N.C. — As the federal government shutdown continues, experts and lawmakers say both political parties are holding firm to their strategies while the effects grow more visible nationwide.
“This is politics,” said Thomas Little, a political science professor at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Little said both parties have their agendas, but added that the ongoing shutdown and the results of Tuesday’s elections could force some reevaluation. “I think both parties went into this thinking that they could make this a winning political issue,” he said. “I think Republicans might be rethinking that a little bit now after Tuesday's election, although I'm looking at Democrats possibly overplaying their hand on that.”
