OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) - The Mahaska County Conservation Board is opening a new playscape that combines environmental education with outdoor play and recreation.
Executive Director Chris Clingan said the space represents significant growth for the conservation.
“From a shop in someone personal garage to we have the environmental center now. We have the wildlife area, 21 different park and natural resource areas.”
The playscape features musical play areas, a pollinator and a concrete sculpture of a mammoth skeleton. Clingan said the addition creates a destination for families.
“This just kind of provides a unique place like a destination. They can start on the bike trail on the west side of town. You know make it a goal to come over to the ELC and take a picture by the mammoth.”
