LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - What began as a quiet Thursday morning quickly turned chaotic for residents of Madison Heights Apartments when Little Rock police swarmed the complex, removing at least 14 people who were allegedly squatting in multiple units.
Neighbors say the scene was the culmination of months of complaints and safety concerns that started in late May, when they said groups of people they believed to be homeless began occupying empty units at the complex without authorization.
"I thought it was supposed to be one apartment, but they literally ended up taking over all four of them," said resident Kennedy Lindsey, who has lived at Madison Heights for about a year and a half and lived in the neighboring building to where the squatters moved in.
