CLEVELAND — It appears several Northeast Ohio school districts will face difficult decisions after emergency operating levies were rejected by voters on Tuesday.
"I'm sad because I know there's going to be an effect," said Ann Schloss, superintendent for the Elyria City School District. "We're going to have to make some very tough decisions, along with our board of education, and things could look different."
Voters said "no" to levies for both Elyria and the Parma City School District. In Elyria, Issue 17 was a 10-year, 4.9-mill emergency operating levy that would have generated about $6.4 million annually for district operations. That included funding for teachers, support staff, and programs for the district’s nearly 6,000 students.
