THE BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) – Cooking for family is such an essential part of the holidays for many.

But for tenants in one housing complex, there may not be any family dinner at home this Thanksgiving unless the gas is restored soon.

“Unfortunately, this year I’m going to go to my nieces because there’s no Thanksgiving here cause there’s no gas,” Harriet Heyward, a longtime resident of the Mitchel Houses, told PIX11 News.

It’s been more than five weeks since Harriet Heyward has been unable to cook with gas in the Mitchel houses, ever since the partial building collapse at 205 Alexander Avenue cut off the gas line for all residents.

Now, the mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother worry about how she will cook her traditional Thanksgiving dinner for her family using just two hot plates,
