MOORHEAD — The Moorhead Spuds now know their opponent in the Minnesota Class 6A football state semifinals, and it won't be the team most expected.
No. 2-seed Lakeville South rolled to a 49-31 victory against No. 1 seed and previously unbeaten and defending state champion Maple Grove on Friday night in the state quarterfinals at Eastview High School.
The No. 6-seeded Spuds (7-4) play Lakeville South (9-2) at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
“We knew they were a Power-T team. They looked really good," Spuds head coach Kevin Feeney said of Lakeville South after that game Friday night. “I don’t know a ton about their personnel, but we’ll dive into that here.”
Cougars running back Griffen Dean rushed for nearly 300 yards and six touchdowns against the Crimson.
