SALISBURY — Livingstone College’s music department welcomed professors and academics from across the country to teach about Black composers this weekend for their second Black Classical Composers Festival and Symposium. Through a collection of lectures and performances, the symposium highlights the work of composers like Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, who was celebrated for his 150th anniversary, and others.

On Friday morning, the first event of the festival featured two lecture recitals from Dr. Douglas Jurs of Elon College and Dr. Huixian Wu of Talladega College.
