MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The slow starts that have plagued Tulane on the road did not materialize Friday night, and that’s an all-time understatement.
The Green Wave still needed a fourth-down stop at its 30-yard line in the final two minutes and a third-down conversion by quarterback Jake Retzlaff to get out of Liberty Stadium with a 38-32 victory over the Memphis Tigers.
Shredding No. 22 Memphis in a game both teams absolutely needed to win, the Green Wave scored touchdowns on five of its six first-half possessions while Retzlaff had a half for the ages.
