When Old Bridge senior Brody Nugent threw an interception that was returned for a game-tying touchdown early in the fourth quarter, not one teammate tried consoling him with a pat on the back or encouragement to pick his head up.
Not because they didn’t care. But because they know Nugent doesn’t need a hand on the back to help him move on from a mistake, and also because his head never dropped in anger or frustration or self-pity.
Can’t see the finish line with your eyes to the turf.
“It’s rare that he makes mistakes. So we just move on to the next thing,” teammate Amari Alsbrook said. “We know, he’s going to make up for it, and he did.”
Alsbrook knows that first-hand - or, more accurately, hands - as the sophomore pulled in a 13-yard scoring pass from Nugent with 1:33 left in the game
