The Assam Rifles on Saturday announced that the fifth edition of its annual Half Marathon will take place on December 14 in Upper Shillong, Meghalaya, with a prize purse of Rs 20 lakh, making it one of the most lucrative running events in Northeast India.
The announcement was made at a curtain-raiser event held at the Constitution Club of India, New Delhi, where the organisers unveiled the marathon’s official jersey, finisher medal, and route map.
The event—first organised in 2021 to promote fitness, camaraderie, and community engagement—has grown into a major sports celebration in the region. This year’s edition will see over 3,000 participants competing across 5 km, 10 km, and 21 km categories, open to runners aged 12 to 60 and above.
