E-bikes and other types of personal e-transport are motor vehicles. Whether they fuel up with gas or electricity is irrelevant. Whether they go 20 mph or 100 mph is irrelevant.

Motorized vehicles are not allowed on sidewalks, most bike lanes, hiking paths or other areas. They are not allowed to be ridden unsafely. They are not allowed to carry more people than their design allows. They are not allowed to be improperly modified.

Many operators, especially young ones, ride e-bikes as if there are no rules. Enforcing their dangerous use is hard, but whatever the police need to enforce vehicle laws pertaining to e-bikes, our elected officials need to figur
