Verna Catherine Kawaihalau

Verna Catherine Kawaihalau passed away on Sept. 9, 2025, at Straub Benioff Medical Center at the age of 78. She was born on May 30, 1947, in Honolulu.

She was preceded in passing by her mother Virginia Bonilla Villaruel, stepmother Winifred Villaruel, siblings Edward Villaruel Jr., Eric Villaruel, Velma Villaruel, and her son James Kimo Villaruel.

Verna is survived by her loving husband of 39 years, Donald “Hawk” Kawaihalau, daughters Denna-Lei (Patrick) Plunkett, Nicole (Eric) Anama, stepchildren Alicia (Ross) Asuncion, Kevin (Sarah) Kawaihalau, father Edward Villaruel Sr., sisters Vanessa Caminos, Diana Lyons, Kapiolani (Don) Newcombe, brothers Edmond Villaruel, Chazz (Janice) Lyons, grandchildren, Morgan Plunkett, Mackenzie Plunkett, Mason Plunkett, Milan P
