Middlesbrough have taken manager Rob Edwards off their match with Birmingham City this afternoon amid links to the Wolves job.

The Boro boss did not oversee first-team training on Friday, while his pre-match press conference was also cancelled .

talkSPORT understands that Edwards was ready and willing to take charge against Birmingham, but Boro have removed him.

The club are now resigned to the fact that Edwards is likely to join Wolves - just four months after being appointed at the Riverside Stadium.

Boro's drastic move comes two days after the Championship side rejected an approach from Wolves , who have made Edwards the top target for their managerial vacancy.
