While the utilization of its services typically increases as the holiday season approaches, the Flagstaff Family Food Center has seen the need in the northern Arizona community skyrocket even earlier this year.

Having served more than 50,000 meals out of its community kitchen during October and distributing food boxes to 370 households from its warehouse on a single day this past week alone, nearing the all-time high of 429 during a previous week of Thanksgiving, the food center is seeing the direct impact of the longest federal government shutdown in history as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) program remains in flux in addition to the ever-increasing cost of living.
