“There’s no crying in baseball!”

That’s a memorable line from actor Tom Hanks in the movie A League of Their Own when he was playing Jimmy Dugan, the fictional manager of a team in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, after one of his players broke down in tears while he was berating her for a mistake.

There is crying in baseball, however, as we saw after the Toronto Blue Jays suffered a heart-breaking 5-4, 11-inning loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 7 of this year’s World Series.
