COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. (WWBT) - Colonial Heights Police are investigating a deadly crash that occurred early Saturday morning.
The incident began in the 100 block of the Boulevard when an officer spotted a Tesla heading southbound, going 40 miles over the speed limit. The officer then attempted to stop the driver, but the driver refused and continued into Petersburg on South Adams Street.
The pursuit came to an end when the driver of the Tesla lost control and crashed into a tree on Marshall Street. The impact caused the Tesla to catch fire, and the flames subsequently spread to a nearby home.
Fire crews quickly responded to the scene and extinguished the fire, preventing further damage to the residence. Four individuals were in the car at the time of the crash.
