FAIRFIELD, Ohio (WXIX) - A pizza restaurant in Fairfield has been providing free pizza for SNAP recipients who did not receive benefits amid a government shutdown.
Kate Dixon, the owner of Cassano’s in Fairfield, told FOX 19 that she has two children of her own. As a mother, she said she couldn’t stand the thought of hungry kids in her community.
“It just doesn’t sit right with me having children out there without anything to eat,” she said.
At first, she was giving out pizza to children, but people informed her that senior citizens are major recipients. She said she started offering them to people over 70. Then people asked her why she set limits.
“Honestly, our response is, ‘If you’re hungry, we will feed you,’” she said. “[Age] doesn’t matter.”
