The Florida Highway Patrol said a woman from Ohio was struck and killed by a vehicle early Saturday morning in Marion County.
Troopers said the crash happened in the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 441 approaching SE 135th Street around 4 a.m. Investigators say the victim was in the inside lane of travel when she was struck. She was located by a passerby after the crash.
The victim was identified as a 63-year-old woman from Cleveland, Ohio, and pronounced dead at the scene.
The vehicle that struck her fled the scene in an unknown direction.
