ALLEN PARK — Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders has an eerily similar feel to last year’s Week 17 game against the San Francisco 49ers.

The Detroit Lions are out for revenge against the team that vanquished them from the playoffs, but their opponent hasn’t held up their end of the bargain in what was supposed to be a high-stakes NFC matchup. The Commanders are 3-6, perhaps one or two losses away from sealing their elimination from playoff contention, and reeling because of injuries.
