Dear Carol: My mom requires 24/7 care, but she doesn’t qualify for hospice. Somehow, I need to obtain a lifting device and other mobility aids, and the prices are scary. I have a long list of questions about how we’re supposed to hold down jobs, raise kids and still provide care. For now, could you just explain how non-wealthy families are supposed to afford expensive medical equipment like care facilities use? We’re new to this, so suggestions for where to start would be welcome. – KH
