Federal funding cuts are hitting hard for seniors who are homebound in Kansas City. Advertisement
The budget Congress passed this year could lead to at least 700 area seniors losing their daily "Meals on Wheels" visits.
1,200 seniors received the service. After the cuts, it's down to 500.
KC Shepherd's Center provides the meals to seniors at no-cost, but they can't deliver the food without funding.
$50 a week pays for one hot meal Monday through Friday.
Lori Zimmerman is one of their customers.
"The meal is great, the food's awesome and the veggies and everything, but the better thing is that I know I'm going to see somebody every day," Zimmerman said. "I need help, I know that around 11, there's going to be somebody at the door."
