Air Traffic Controllers (ATC) have claimed that the system failure at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) on November 7 could have been avoided.
According to media reports, the ATC Guild of India stated that it had alerted the Airports Authority of India (AAI) in July about technical flaws in the airport’s automation system and the urgent need for an upgrade.
However, no action was taken on the warning.
The technical glitch in ATC’s Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS) disrupted flight operations at IGI for over 12 hours. As a result, more than 800 domestic and international flights were delayed, and around 20 were cancelled.
