TAMPA, Fla. ( WWSB /Gray News) - Four people are dead after a driver crashed into a crowd of pedestrians early Saturday morning in the historic Ybor City district.

According to the Tampa Police Department , the crash happened around 12:40 a.m. in the 1500 block of East 7th Avenue.

Police said the driver involved was speeding and refused to stop for officers. The vehicle eventually lost control, slamming into multiple pedestrians, and crashed just outside of a bar near Nebraska Avenue.

The driver, identified as 22-year-old Dallas Sampson from Denver, was arrested at the scene.

Three people died at the crash scene, while a fourth victim died at the hospital. Another victim is in critical condition at the hospital, and eight others are being treated at area hospitals, police said.
