SNAP food assistance has become one of the real-life pain points of the federal shutdown.
It has also highlighted the bigger issues of food insecurity and the financial challenges facing many inflation-weary, working-class and low-income households.
The federal shutdown has put Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) payments to low-income beneficiaries in peril.
That’s added stress for SNAP beneficiaries and significantly increased traffic at food banks across the countries.
“Anxiety is high… It’s off the charts,” said Cindy Jordan, CEO and co-founder of Pyx Health, an Arizona-based company that provides food security, behavioral health and other resources to Medicaid and Medicare recipients as well as vulnerable communities.
