GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A driver is "fortunate to be alive" and facing charges of operating while intoxicated after the Kent County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) said he crashed into a Grand Rapids Walgreens on Friday night.

Deputies said in a Facebook post that units responded to the Walgreens located at 5100 E Beltline Avenue NE after a vehicle crashed into the building.

The store was closed at the time and no one was inside.

KCSO said the driver fled the scene but was quickly found by responding patrol units.

The driver is being held at the Kent County Jail on multiple charges, including operating while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a crash.
