ROANE COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — A man convicted in the 2022 deaths of two people is now facing additional time in prison after he was convicted of smuggling drugs into the Roane County Jail.
Ninth Judicial District Attorney General Russell Johnson shared on Friday that a jury convicted Lonnie Wright of introduction of contraband into a penal facility. The charge is a Class D felony, which carries between two and 23 years in prison.
Wright is currently serving a 33-year sentence for two counts of criminal negligent homicide, attempted aggravated robbery and burglary, Tennessee Department of Correction records state. Johnson shared in August 2024 that Wright was convicted on multiple charges in connection to the 2022 deaths of Steve Groover and Cindy Scruggs.
