ASHBY — The Ashby Lions and Ashby Agricultural Education Program joined forces last spring to submit a Hunger Grant to Lions Clubs International Foundation. They were informed recently that they will receive the full $150,000 to make their project idea a reality.
The goal is to build a greenhouse on the Ashby School campus to grow produce for the Grant County food shelves and school lunch program.
Currently the Ashby Agricultural Education program manages a school garden and apple orchard and donates fresh produce to the Grant County food shelves during the months of August through October.
The addition of a greenhouse will allow the program to donate fresh produce year round. District Gov. Sue Krumrey visited Ashby recently to sign the grant agreement and discuss the project timeline.
