At the Nov. 3 hearing, our community expressed important values; yet the 371 overpass does have the potential to address safety concerns and foster exponential economic growth.
Law enforcement and MnDOT both project increased safety concerns. As north Baxter expands, traffic will divert to residential areas at higher speeds, putting families at risk. MnDOT proposed the buttonhook in response to city request, with Chamber and resident input. If Baxter fails to approve this project, we may not see more funding without more deaths. Will those who oppose take responsibility for those deaths? Loss of revenue, driving challenges, and confusion may feel like existential threats now, but we can remedy those — we can't bring back lives.
I unequivocally prefer the inconvenience of saving lives.
