CRANSTON WEST – It’s funny what confidence will do for a team.

But the rest of Division I hasn’t found anything the Cranston West football team has done over the last six weeks humorous at all.

After a tough start to the season the Falcons continued to ride momentum forward. Last week’s improbable comeback over La Salle earned them a home playoff game and Friday, West walked in confident and ready to win. The defense shut down Portsmouth’s vaunted run attack, quarterback Jonathan Leroux didn’t look like a sophomore and the Falcons came away with a 14-7 win over the Patriots to earn a spot in the State Championship semifinals.
