WATERBURY, Conn. (WFSB) - A man was accused of abandoning an English Bulldog in a parking lot on Thursday in Waterbury.
The suspect was identified as Hector Gonzalez, 24, from Waterbury.
According to police, the dog was left at the back of a parking lot near 330 Bishop Street.
Authorities said Gonzalez dropped off the dog and drove away in a black SUV.
Gonzalez reportedly told officers that he left the dog because he could not take care of it.
During the investigation, police found Gonzalez to be in possession of a firearm without a permit.
He was arrested and charged with cruelty to animals, weapons in a motor vehicle, carrying a firearm without a permit, and illegal sale or transfer of a firearm.
The Waterbury Police Department reminded people that abandoning animals is a criminal
