On a cold and windy Saturday, hundreds of people descended on the Pittsburgh International Race Complex for the very last time.
A fog hung in the air over rows of brightly colored cars lining the parking lots. People sat in folding chairs beneath tents, grilling hotdogs and chugging beers.
Some had stayed overnight, camping out on the grounds of the complex. A lucky few set up their tents overlooking the racetrack, waking up to screeching tires and revving engines starting at 8:30 a.m. against a backdrop of trees turned red, orange and yellow.
But Saturday was no celebration. After the weekend, the race track will be closed forever.
