Beaver Area and Oakland Catholic will meet Tuesday in the PIAA Class 3A girls volleyball semifinals after both recorded a victory in Saturday's quarterfinals.
Beaver (23-1), the WPIAL champion, advanced to the PIAA semifinals for the third consecutive year with a 3-1 victory against Mars (18-6) in a match played at North Allegheny. Kailyn Connelly led the Bobcats with 27 kills and eight digs. Lanie Malobabich and Anna Vinopal each recorded 7 kills. Setter Kayden Blinn had 41 assists and 10 digs.
It was the third time the two teams met this season and Beaver claimed victory in all three. The Bobcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead with wins of 25-20 and 25-21. The Planets won the third set, 25-23, but the Bobcats rallied to win the third set 25-11.
