ATLANTA — Hundreds of people lined up outside Elizabeth Baptist Church on Saturday for “Operation Uplift,” a huge food giveaway aimed at helping families facing financial hardship.
Dozens of volunteers worked for hours, passing out a thousand boxes of groceries — each filled with fresh vegetables and a 10-pound bag of frozen chicken. The effort was meant to help families worried about food insecurity as SNAP benefits remain uncertain.
“Families, get help. It’s never too late. There’s nothing to be ashamed about. We’re all in the same boat,” said Evette Thomas, who was in line to receive a box.
