SOUTH COVENTRY — There was no getting around it Saturday afternoon for Archbishop Carroll’s girls soccer team.

Starting goalie and first-team All-Catholic selection Grace Wilson wasn’t at Owen J. Roberts with her fellow Patriots, pulled away for a club lacrosse tournament.

The athletes charged with replacing her in goal — Villanova basketball commit Alexis Eberz, and Carroll senior center Bridget Grant — were skilled in sports involving balls, but with one key detail lacking.

“Our goalies have never played goalie before,” center back Greta Potten said.

For much of the year, having soccer players that specialize in sports other than soccer has been a recipe for success for Carroll.
