KNOXVILLE, Tenn — The Sprint for the Prints 5K raises money for the Precious Prints Project — a program started at the University of Tennessee College of Nursing.
The group gives grieving families a charm with their child's fingerprint as a tangible way of remembering them.
Since the start of the project, more than 2,000 families have received the pendants, and one mother said it helps her keep her baby's memory close.
"We were given one of these fingerprint charms at the hospital," Brandy Hendrickson said. "It's been very meaningful for me to have. It's a piece of her that I have literally been carrying with me every day."
At Saturday's race, families also had the opportunity to place fingerprints on a memory canvas along with other commemorative activities.
