LANSING, Mich. (WILX) -University of Michigan Health-Sparrow held a screening event today in recognition of National Lung Cancer Screening Day, providing life-saving low-dose CT scans for community members for several hours.
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in the U.S., killing more people than the next three causes of cancer combined.
“For members of the community, especially those ages 50 to 80 who have a heavy smoking history, would qualify for a lung screening and it is covered by most insurance; it’s fast, it’s easy to do,” said Rylie Dumond with University of Michigan Health-Sparrow.
Dumond said low-dose lung screenings can find lung nodules earlier and detect lung cancers at an earlier stage, where they can be more treatable.
