MADISON (WKOW) – On Saturday, the Dane County Humane Society (DCHS) hosted a Pet Food Pantry to help pet families struggling to afford pet food and supplies.
The effort comes as more local families face difficult financial decisions amid rising costs and uncertainty around SNAP benefits. DCHS staff say they’ve heard from numerous families heartbroken at the thought of surrendering their pets because they can’t afford their care.
All week, DCHS held an emergency pet food drive collecting unopened bags and cans of dog and cat food, as well as cat litter. The organization reports an overwhelming response from community members, local businesses, and organizations.
