AVONDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — A teen is dead after being shot inside an apartment in Avondale on Saturday morning.

Just before 6:30 a.m., first responders were dispatched to the Rio Santa Fe apartments, near Dysart Road and McDowell Road, for reports of a shooting.

Police found a 17-year-old girl with a gunshot wound before she was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. She later died at the hospital. Due to her age, police said her name will not be released.

One person has been detained and is in custody on unrelated charges, and police believe there is no current threat to the community.
