Thirty-one municipalities have pledged to uphold a safe and respectful democracy — Brant County wasn’t one of them.

A tie vote last week prevented the county from joining the #ElectRespect pledge, an initiative the Halton Elected Representatives started to “restore civility and respect to the public square,” according to its website.

It left some locals wondering why.

“Aside from one councillor’s concerns about how the information was received, there was no discussion. They just voted against it and moved on. It sends a terrible message,” Kari Raymer Bishop told The Spectator.
