JASPER COUNTY, Texas — A man drowned at an East Texas lake after falling into the water Saturday evening.
According to the Jasper County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded around 5:15 p.m. to a reported possible drowning at Umphrey Pavillion.
Early information shows the man was fishing with his wife at the dock when he started coughing, passed out and then fell off the dock into the water. His wife jumped into the water and tried to hold him up, the sheriff's office said.
Then, a nearby boater saw what happened and was able to get the man to the shore. The boater began CPR and then first responders arrived to help as well. They were not able to revive him, according to the JCSO.
A judge pronounced the man dead. His identity will not be released at this time.
