WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - With SNAP benefits continuing to bring a layer of uncertainty to many Kansas families, more locals are trying to help those looking for their next meal. On Saturday, multiple organizations were working to provide meals to the hungry.

At Risen Savior Lutheran Church, dozens of volunteers came to scoop, weigh, and package meals.

“Today we are packing 100,000 meals,” said Chad Topper, director of facilities and operations for The Outreach Program, “50,000 meals are going to Haiti and 50,000 meals are going to the local community.

The Outreach Program is a nonprofit that focuses on providing meals to those who need them.

“Because of the SNAP benefits, we’ve really seen an incline of people in need here recently,” Topper said.
