The UTEP women's basketball team won't find it easy to duplicate the first 14 minutes of their 76-61 victory over Nichols State at the Don Haskins Center, but to borrow a coach's phrase, the Miners put it on tape and doing it once means they can do it again.

UTEP sprinted out of the gate Saturday night, making 15 of its first 19 shots in a dazzling display, putting 30 points on the board in the first quarter and gave a tantalizing glimpse of what looks like a high ceiling.

At the 6:24 mark of the second quarter they were up 39-16 and by halftime they had 10 players on the score sheet. Coach Keitha Adams wants her team to be defined by grit and defense, and there were plenty of moments when that was on display against Nichols State, but this was also pretty basketball in the best way.
