TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — LSU lost to No. 4-ranked Alabama 20-9 on Saturday night at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Here's what we learned from the Tigers' third straight defeat, which dropped LSU to 5-4 and 2-4 in the SEC:

1. Cold comfort for change

Since the Tigers’ 49-25 blowout loss to Texas A&M two weeks ago, LSU fired coach Brian Kelly, offensive coordinator Joe Sloan and committed to running the ball to help beleaguered quarterback Garrett Nussmeier. After a promising early start, it was more of the same for the anemic LSU offense, which lost a net 5 yards (including taking a knee) on its last seven plays of the first half. In the third quarter, Nussmeier was replaced by Michael Van Buren.
