SALT LAKE CITY — It wasn’t pretty, but it was gutsy— and for a Utah team trying to build a new, competitive identity under Alex Jensen, that might mean more than the win itself. Thanks to the heroics of the starting backcourt, Utah surged late, sent it to overtime, and emerged with the a 92-89 victory over the Weber State Wildcats.
The Wildcats controlled most of the second half, and even had a 10-point lead with seven minutes. However, the Utes just kept competing, and willed their way to the win.
When the margin was thinnest, Utah leaned on the two who refused to let it slip away. Terrence Brown relentlessly attacked the rim, while Don McHenry buried clutch shot after clutch shot, including the one to send the game to overtime.
